Tucked into the far southwest corner of the state, Big Hill Pond is a hilly, wooded surprise. The route climbs and dips through pine and hardwood to a 70-foot steel lookout tower; the climb up the steps is worth it for the view over the Tuscumbia River bottomlands and Travis McNatt Lake. A long boardwalk over Dismal Swamp and miles of backcountry trail make it easy to extend the day.
