Starting from the park office on Byrd Lake, the white-blazed loop traces the lakeshore and a stretch of Byrd Creek, crossing the creek on a rustic suspension bridge before returning over a span near the historic Crab Orchard stone arch dam. The terrain is nearly flat, making it an easy family walk and a good spot for songbirds and waterfowl on the Cumberland Plateau.
