David Crockett ran a powder mill, gristmill, and distillery on Shoal Creek here in the early 1800s before a flood wiped them out and sent him west to Texas. The trail climbs the wooded bluff above the creek for filtered views, then returns past Crockett Falls, a wide limestone ledge that the water slides across below the old mill site. Interpretive markers near the museum fill in the frontier history.
