This little loop is named for the stand of tall second-growth oak, poplar, and hickory it climbs through, the kind of forest the Civilian Conservation Corps helped regrow across these ridges in the 1930s. It is a quick leg-stretcher on its own, but it ties into the park's wider web of trails, so hikers can link it with the Lake View, Christmas Fern, and High Point routes for a longer day above the Clinch River.
